Boys/Girls Basketball
St. Mary's Basketball season ended the year with some great accomplishments. Our 7th & 8th grade Girls (Coach Duber) finished in 1st place in the Varsity Division 2-West with a 6-1 record. The St. Mary's 7th grade Boys team (Coach Abraham) finished tied for first place in the JV Division AA-West with an undefeated 7-0 record. Our 8th grade Boys basketball team (Coach Meehan) made it to the semi-finals Division 1 playoffs for the CYO City Championship on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at John Carroll University, finishing in second place.

CYO Basketball at St. Mary’s includes about 150 girls and boys from 4th through 8th grades. For the past few years St. Mary’s has also been fortunate enough to be able to field both girls and boys high school teams, as well. Grade school teams generally practice two times each week once the season begins in early November, with league games being played on either Saturdays or Sundays, beginning in early December. The season is usually eight games long but a team may also become involved in tournament play. The high school teams begin their season in early December with two practices a week, playing approximately eight regular season games beginning in January. There are also tournament opportunities for the high school teams. The highlight for the Varsity teams (8th grade teams) is the all-St. Mary’s tournament that is held in Columbus. St. Mary’s teams from all around Ohio are invited to compete in this tournament in March. It is a chance for the teams to travel and participate in an overnight tournament, making the teams’ final year together something special.
Traditionally St. Mary’s has played host to a 5th Grade Boys league. In the 2004-05 season we added Girls basketball games to the St. Mary’s venue (in January timeframe). We hope to continue these games into the upcoming seasons.
