CONGRATULATIONS
The St Mary's 4th Grade Volleyball (Coach
Alane Mastandrea) and 6th Grade Volleyball (Coach Beth Scebbi) teams for
winning CYO's Sportsmanship Award for 2008. These teams were nominated
by peers, site directors, officials and others for demonstrating
Christian values and developing the CYO ideology while on the court.
These teams and coaches will be honored on November 1 at CSU's Woodling
Gym during the CYO Sportsmanship Night. Please congratulate these
athletes and coaches when you see them.
Access the
Photos page for pictures of the season. Follow the
navigation link (above).
The 2008 - 2009 St
Mary's of Berea wrestling
The wrestling
season will begin Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00PM in the Berea High
School Wrestling Room (located off the West side entrance of the
building). The team is open to all boys from 4th grade to 8th grade.
Practices will generally be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings
from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Berea High School. In addition, for
kindergarten through 4th grade athletes, St. Mary's is teaming up with
Berea to support an Ohio Youth League team. These practices will
generally be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 to 8:00 pm at
Berea High School.
Anyone who is interested in joining either the CYO team or the Youth
team, or just curious about what wrestling entails is encouraged to
attend the practice and ask questions. Students new to wrestling are
welcome, and will only be matched against opponents of similar size,
experience and skill level. This is an excellent opportunity to learn a
new sport that will teach discipline, increase stamina and coordination,
instruct in valuable self defense skills, and enhance self-confidence.
If you have any questions or need a registration form, please call
Director Jim Laubert at (440) 243-2324, or Coach Jim Whitford at
440-532-8467."

Fee Changes
Due to rising costs (especially CYO fees), the
need to replace ALL uniforms to comply with our new school colors, lack
of success with our fundraising efforts and the growing debt of our
program, we are being forced to raise our registration fees.
Registration for one athlete is being raised to
$60 per sport. Two athletes, in the same sport, will be $50 per
athlete. Three or more athletes will be $40.
We are also establishing an annual per family Booster
fee of $40 per family per year.
It is hoped that with these changes we will be able to
continue the excellent programs that we have provided in the past.
Follow the "Registration Docs" navigation button above
for a more detailed explanation of the changes.
CYO Coaches' Certification
All coaches in the CYO program must be
certified in the rules, regulations and expected conduct of members &
participants in CYO athletics. This is an all day event. The
fee is paid by St. Mary's. For the next Certification
session refer to the CYO website under "Links & Locations" (above).
Please let us know if you would like to attend.
